CANINE GOOD CITIZEN/THERAPY DOG

This class is designed to get students and dogs prepared for the American Kennel Club’s Canine Good Citizen test and the Delta Society Pet Partners test. Passing the Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test results in an AKC certification, and passing the thorough Delta Society test allows your dog/handler team to visit nursing homes, hospitals, etc. Dogs must have completed Basic or Puppy (or have been evaluated by instructor). Class includes CGC test on last night by Christy Paxton, registered CGC Evaluator. Christy works closely with a Delta evaluator to keep students informed about scheduled test dates.

LOCATION: The Cleveland Animal Protective League, 1729 Willey Ave., Cleveland's historic Tremont neighborhood.

The Canine Good Citizen Test is a certification program that tests dogs in simulated everyday situations in a relaxed atmosphere. It identifies and rewards dogs that have the training and demeanour to be reliable family members as well as good-standing community members. It will be open to all dogs.

The purpose of the Canine Good Citizen Test is to ensure that our favourite companion, the dog, can be a respected member of the community because it is trained and conditioned to act mannerly in the home, allowable in public places and in the presence of other dogs.

Canine Good Citizen training is fun and useful. Through it, you and your dog will establish a closer bond and your dog will have the added benefit of knowing how to please you. The test of your dog’s manners and training is not a competition and does NOT require that you and your dog perform with precision. This is the starter program, it is intended that additional, updated education sections will be added as they become available.
