The sign went up, and the first RESCUE RAVE was ready to go!

Through the generosity of Cleveland-area businesses and individuals, our raffle area overflowed with great stuff to bid on!

The competition was fierce, but the dogs weren't.

Hard to get Barney (rescued from the streets of Tremont) to stop wagging his tail after he won Best Tail/Stub/Butt Wag. Best Ears was won by -- who else!? — a Basset (Ohio Basset Rescue) named Jackson. Hunter (Cuyahoga County Kennel) is proud to have won Best Retriever/Lab Mix.

Best Terrier Mix Lucy Lou (Second Hand Mutts) works the judges.

Best Grey Face Spotty (private rescue).

Max (Havranek's Rescue) says, "Of course I'm the Best Shepherd Mix!"

The judges couldn't pick a winner, so everyone won Best Recovery (Physical): (l-r) Heather (Cuyahoga County Kennel) , Kirby (Marilyn's Voice), Suzie (Greater Cleveland Siberian Rescue)

Jessie (PALS [Goddard, KS]) walked off with Best Mystery Mix, Best Monster Mix and Best Dog-Gone-Dog. Congratulations on your big wins!

Jessie's owners celebrate his Best Dog-Gone Dog win with the Emcee Eileen McShea (orange parka) and the judges: Cleveland APL Executive Director Sharon Harvey (back row, yellow parka with hood up), local artist Judy Brandon (grey jacket), Cleveland City Councilman Joe Cimperman (only male human!) and wheelchair dancer Charlotte Heppner. Jessie shows off his winning ways in a chic rain slicker!

The Planning Committee for the first-ever RESCUE RAVE celebrates a great (and slightly damp) day. Front row (l-r) Rebecca Jackson, Cyndi Smith, Charlotte Heppner. Back row (l-r): Becca Riker, Sandy Smith, Christy Paxton.
